Dr. Angela Y Chang

Dr. Angela Y Chang is an Associate Professor at the Danish Institute for Advanced Study and Danish Centre for Health Economics at the University of Southern Denmark. Her research focuses on global health and population dynamics, with an emphasis on health economics, measurement of disease burden, and gender equality. She is committed to reducing health and wealth inequalities globally through research, and motivated by the belief that research can provide the inputs needed to inform policies and improve resource allocation, and ultimately, impact population health. Her recent works and grants consist of measuring experienced burden of disease in Denmark, measuring gender inequalities in health, estimating the adult mortality inequality in low- and middle-income countries, studying climate youth migration in Uganda, and capturing the monetary value of changes in health to estimate the economic burden of disease, among others. She is a member of the Lancet Commission on Investing in Health and the Danish Expert Group on Global Health. Angela received her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, doctoral degree from Harvard University, and postdoctoral training at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. She grew up in Taiwan and Japan, and is currently based in Copenhagen.
