Dr. Shrinivas Shanbhag

Dr. Shrinivas Shanbhag is a medical graduate from The Grant Medical College, Mumbai and has the Diploma in Industrial Medicine from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Mumbai.  After working as a lecturer at The Grant Medical College, he worked with The ESIS Hospitals in Mumbai and later joined Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited at their Mumbai Refinery where he headed the medical services from 1982 to 1994.  He joined Reliance Industries Limited as a Corporate Medical Advisor and has worked with them for 26 years. Besides being responsible for the Health Care Activities at Reliance, he was also in charge of the Occupational Health Service for the Group. He worked as the President Medical Services in the Expert Group advising the Chairman for the more than 8 years. He was on the Board of Directors of M/s Reliance Hospital Management Services Pvt Ltd. and was actively involved in implementing the Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital Project in Raigad , Maharashtra as well as worked in the Sir H N Hospital Project. He was a  Trustee of the Dahej Health & Welfare Centre, Gujarat.

Dr. Shanbhag has presented many scientific papers on various topics in the field of Occupational Health at National and International Conferences in India and abroad.  He has been awarded the Modistone Award for the best scientific paper.  He has also delivered the ADM, CKR and the L & T Orations of the Indian Association of Occupational Health. Dr Shanbhag has been conferred the Honorary Fellowship of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FFOM) by the Royal College of Physicians, London. He has also been awarded the President’s Medal of the American Industrial Hygienists Association. He is a member of various medical associations. He was coopted as a member of the Board of International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) for 2015-2018. He also serves as a MEDICHEM Board member. He has also occupied various office bearers’ positions in the Indian Association of Occupational Health at the local and national levels. He is the Past President of the Indian Association of Occupational Health, and a past Board member of the ICOH. He has been instrumental in organizing successful conferences on Occupational Health at the local and national levels.  He was actively involved in the activities of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry as the Member of the Health Safety & Environment committee. He was also a member of the Public Health Committee of the Confederation of Indian Industries. IAOH Central Council has nominated him Chairman, ICOH 2027 Organizing Committee.
