Panel Discussion- Mumbai First Roundtable

To address rising climate threats like extreme heat, Mumbai First and the Gates Foundation launched the CLAP initiative. In response, Mumbai First, with support from the Gates Foundation, launched the Community-Led Resilience and Adaptation Program (CLAP). Under CLAP, an expert discussion was co-hosted by JSW Centre for Climate Change and Health and Mumbai First at Masina Hospital, Mumbai on 19 November 2025 to initiate work on Mumbai’s first Health-Centric Heat Action Plan. Drawing lessons from Ahmedabad’s Heat Action Plan, Prof. Dileep Mavalankar highlighted strategies for protecting vulnerable communities, strengthening health system preparedness, and implementing effective heat-response measures. These learnings will be used to engage with the Government of Maharashtra to co-create Mumbai’s official Heat-Health Action Plan, marking a step towards a cooler, safer, and more climate-resilient city.
