Dr. Saumya Sawleshwarkar

Dr. Saumya Sawleshwarkar is a Senior Research Coordinator at the JSW Centre for Climate Change and Health. She is a medical doctor with an MSc in Global Health from King’s College London and brings experience spanning clinical practice, public health research and health systems work across India and the UK. She is an Associate of King’s College London and a member of the Nationwide Quality of Care Network India.

Dr. Saumya is passionate about health equity and the just and equitable distribution of resources. She began her public health journey working across areas including women empowerment and fostering gender inclusive care, healthcare quality improvement, mental health and health equity, and systematic reviews of chronic health conditions. Throughout her career, she has worked across low- and high-resource settings, with marginalised populations in remote and rural communities as well as urban centres.

At the JSW Centre, she works at the intersection of climate change and health, with a particular interest in health equity, climate justice, health policy, and the challenges of translating evidence into effective implementation. She is interested in understanding how climate change disproportionately affects health and how public health responses can be designed to be more equitable and inclusive. Outside of work, Dr. Saumya enjoys live music and poetry.
