Prof. Ramachandra Kamath

Prof. Ramachandra Kamath is Professor and Head of the Department of Community Medicine at the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences, Madikeri, located in Kodagu District, Karnataka. He also served as Professor & Head, Department of Public Health, Manipal University, Manipal, Karnataka. Dr.  Kamath has a total of 23 years of experience in public health, disaster response, and medical education. He has led and contributed to numerous emergency medical relief operations in India and internationally, including major disasters such as the Haiti and Nepal earthquakes, Gujarat earthquake, Bihar floods, Tamil Nadu tsunami, Uttarakhand floods, and Andhra Pradesh cyclones, working closely with UNICEF, AMDA Japan, and the Indian Red Cross Society. An accomplished public health researcher, he has served as Principal Investigator or Investigator for several key national and international studies and programmes, including surveys on filariasis elimination, measles–rubella vaccination, tobacco control (COTPA), RNTCP Active Case Finding, iodine deficiency disorders, Pulse Polio evaluation, and baseline health assessments around the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant, as well as studies supported by WHO, The Union, the World Bank, and government health agencies. He is also actively involved in capacity building, training healthcare professionals in disaster management, first aid, and tuberculosis control at national and state levels
